It’s really hard to save a guy’s life when he keeps running from you. You might be asking yourself why I’m waving an inflatable penis in the air and screaming at the top of my lungs. If I took time to explain, Declan Moss would get hit by a bus. Let me back up. I didn’t ask for this. I was perfectly happy—and perfectly sane—before I was tasked with keeping Declan Moss alive. It was a thankless job until the moment that my panties dropped and his delicious smirk found his way in between my thighs. Hello, toe-curling ecstasy. Goodbye, professional boundaries. And suddenly, there’s a new danger to avoid: the falling of my heart.
“I had a giant penis in my purse.”
I should have known – if the very first sentence in the book was “I had a giant penis in my purse.” – I was going to love this book. Tripping on a Halo is my first romantic comedy and it was a heart-stopper! I was thrilled to receive an ARC of Alessandra Torre’s latest work, but I’ve made a couple of failed attempts at romantic comedies this year. I’d decided that maybe I just wasn’t a romantic comedy kind of girl. I’m supposed to read a funny book as a requirement for my 2018 reading challenge and everything I’d tried so far ended up falling flat and ultimately being shelved. It’s ended up being the absolute hardest category for me to fulfill and I did not see that coming. I love humor, but apparently not in book form. Then I got my hands on this little gem. It pulled me in and I just had to know what sort of hilarity Autumn Jones was going to launch herself into next. At first, you think she’s well-intentioned but completely insane – what is wrong with this girl? But then you eventually fall in love with her quirky, misplaced lunacy.
The fact that Alessandra Torre can go from a steamy romance like Hidden Seams to the suspenseful and heart-wrenching story told in The Ghostwriter to this hilarious romp in Tripping on a Halo speaks volumes to her talents as an author. She’s not spitting out one formulaic, copycat book after another. She can write anything and write it superbly. She’s an author I definitely need to read more of. I’ve had The Girl in Apartment 6E and Hollywood Dirt waiting patiently to be read on my Kindle for what seems like forever. Will someone please make more hours in the day?
If you’re looking for a good rom-com or just need something light-hearted to brighten this winter gloom that’s settled upon us – grab a copy of Tripping on a Halo and let Autumn Jones pull you out of the seasonal affective disorder so many of us are already suffering from!
